Submission Guidelines

(Please read these guidelines thoroughly if you plan to submit any material to Zor's Journal)

Zor's Journal is currently in the setup and license neotiation phase of production. Although this site is fully functional, and capable of accepting your submissions, we will not make any selections for publication until the license negotiations are complete.  Please understand that significant changes to our format are possible as a result of these negotiations, including cancellation of the entire project.  But don't let that stop you.  We at the Journal feel confident in the success of this project and want to get ahead of the game by accepting submissions, and planning future issues so we will be ready to go to print as soon as possible.  Your submissions are highly encouraged.

We accept quality work that depicts the Robotech universe.  Although we prefer either character driven dramas or action packed adventures, we will consider any work on its individual merits.

We currently only accept submissions electronically.  They should be in either Microsoft Word .doc or Adobe Acrobat PDF format for fiction/poetry or Jpeg format for art.  They should be submitted through our Submission Form .  Also please understand that you are expected to edit your work thoroughly before submitting it.  We will format your work so it fits our pages, but we do not want to correct spelling or other errors.  Poor editing will have a negative effect on our selection consideration.

IMPORTANT:  Please ensure that your work is Robotech only in nature.  No crossovers such as Robotech vs Transformers (copyrighted by Hasbro).  Zor's Journal is pursuing a license to publish Robotech content only, inclusion of any other copyrighted material from any source other than Robotech will result in your submission being immediately disqualified from publication consideration.

No Simultaneous Submissions: Please do not submit your work to the Journal if you have already submitted it to any other companies. If you have uploaded your art or fiction to Robotech.com*, Palladium Books, etc. it may be inelligible for use in this Anthology due to legal restrictions resulting from your having submitted your work to these other companies. If you have submitted your work to another organization and are not sure if you are legally prohibited from submitting it to the Journal, contact the editor and explain your situation. Be sure to state who you submitted your work to, and we will research the legal requirements for you.

*Works submitted to Robotech.com may still be eligible for publication in the Journal.  Please contact the editor prior to submitting your work and give the details including your real name, Robotech.com user name, the title of your work, and  brief synopsis.  Zor's Journal has a good working relationship with Harmony Gold and may still be able to use your work even though it has been submitted to Robotech.com

Zor's journal asks for non exclusive rights of international publication as well as the rights to use your work on our web site, promotional material, etc. in perpetuity.   That means that you grant us the rights to use your work, but you never lose the rights to future publication of your own material.  Note:  This does not mean you have any authorization from Harmony Gold to publish your work, just that you have the right to seek that authorization if you wish.

Submission Categories and Standard Payments*:  Submissions will be divided into the following categories, and standard payments are as follows:  Poetry or Short Story (up to 7500 words) $10, Novella/Novellette (7500 to 40,000 words) $10-$40, and Full size Novel/Serial (40,000 to 80,000 words)$40-$80.  Zor's journal will also consider comic/manga submissions as well as art.  Art is paid at the rate of $20 per work. Manga/Serial art is $20 per page.  Payment is upon acceptance.  The most deserving submissions will be selected for inclusion in the next issue of the Journal so long as they are received in time to be reviewed and approved.  If your submissions is received to late to be considered for the next published edition, they will automatically go into the consideration for the following edition.  Acceptance does not necessarily mean that your work will appear in the very next issue.  Zor's Journal may elect to hold onto your work to include it in a specific later edition, online, or other use not necessarily in the printed version of the Journal.  If your work is selected for alternative use only (not to be published) you will receive 1/2 of the standard payment.

*Standard payment is in U.S. Dollars.  Special arrangements can be made for non U.S. contributors.

We may also carry some non fiction content from time to time such as RPG stats/updates, interviews, movie/game reviews etc.  If you have a nonfiction piece that you would like to be considered for publication, we would prefer that you please send a query letter, prior to submitting the piece, to the editor, Brian McAfee, at brian.mcafee@robotechanthology.com

Finally, in order for your work to be considered for publication, you will need to download, sign, and return our Submission Agreement letter.  You may print this letter out, sign it, and scan it.  In this case you can upload it along with your submission in the Submission Form.  If you cannot scan the signed letter, you may mail it to the address listed at the bottom of the submission form.  Be sure to click on the "I will send the letter seperately" button to let us know its on its way.
